Local students will get an opportunity to receive group instruction organized by instrument as well as opportunites for advanced players to play with professional musicians in a final showcase performance.
Groups will be formed by instrument and then further separated by level, beginning, intermediate and advanced. Focus will be on correct playing techniques, scales, chords, soloing ideas and playing within a band context. Students will also have opportunities for one on one instruction.
The first half of the day will be spent with your instructor(guitar, bass or drums) working on specific aspects unique to your instrument. LA Music Academy Summer Staff:
Peter Boskivich: Bass
Born and raised in Salt Lake City Utah, Peter
Boskovich moved to LA in 2004 to attend the one-year
program at the Los Angeles Music Academy. Having no
prior formal training, Peter studied intensively under
Ed Lucie (Buddie Rich, Stevie Wonder, Moscow Symphony
Orchestra) harmony and theory, jazz improvisation, and
the many varied styles taught at the academy. While
attending L.A.M.A, Peter played in the Jazz ensemble
under the direction of Tony Inzalaco (Oscar Peterson).
After completeing his studies, Peter started gigging
around L.A. in various rock, pop, and jazz ensembles,
while also playing ensemble workshops at L.A.M.A. for
enrolled students. Peter has performed with among
others Jeff Richman, Jules Arindam, Bill Fowler, and
currently has a weekly jazz gig with Mike Shapiro
(Sergio Mendes, All Mckay All-Stars). Some recordings
from this gig can be heard at http://www.myspace.com/juanmamusic, and other recent
recordings of his pop/rock band, Hunters point can be
heard here.
Peter was an instructor
at last years summer music workshop. He is very
excited to return this year and hopes to have enough
time to cover all the material planned. From jazz,
Brasilian, funk, and blues. He'll have his work cut
out for him.
Michael Hughes: Drums
Michael Hughes has been playing drums since he was
8 years old, and is now 22 working as a full time
musician in Los Angeles. He began playing
professionally when he was in his mid-teens, playing a
lot of casuals, and oldies top 40 music with his
mother's band (ace high). Michael Grew up in the San
Fransisco Bay Area. His passion for music, and desire
to better himself as a musician brought him to the Los
Angeles Music Academy in Pasadena, Ca. He graduated
from the drum program in the fall of 2004, and the 6
month vocal prgram in the Spring of 2005. Although
Michael has been singing for longer than he's been
drumming, he feels that drums are his forte. For the
last few years Michael has been performing with many
different bands, playing stlyes such as Rock,
Jazz/Blues, R&B, Alternative, Funk, and Brazilian.
Last September he traveled to Athens, Greece to play
with well known Nigerian Reggae artist Majek Fashek at
the Mama Africa Music Festiaval. Michael also works
as an Ensemble Workshop musician for the Los Angeles
Music academy. He also band coaches for their summer
program, and their Kenshu program. Through the
academy, he's made many valuable connections, and has
played with many highly respected musicians like Frank
Gambale(Chick Corea), Mike Shapiro(Sergio Mendes,
Black Eyed Peas, Justin Timberlake) Jeff Richman, Bill
Fowler, Dave Hill, Ross Bolton, Brad Rabuchin(Ray
Charles), and many others. Michael wishes to return
to school to complete his B.A. and Masters degree,
hoping to fulfill his dream of becoming a college
proffessor in music.
