Maui Invitational Music Festival

The 1 O'clock Jazz Band
The 1 O'clock Jazz Band, a 17-piece Big Band from Montana State University, and Henry Kaleialoha Allen with Tropical Swing featuring a touch of cool jazz.
This Friday, June 4 beginning at 7pm at the Hyatt Regency Maui in Kaanapali.
The Maui Invitational Music Festival is presented by the nonprofit Arts Education for Children Group (AECG), and is supported by County of Maui and Hawai‘i Tourism Authority.

2010 MAUI INVITATIONAL MUSIC FESTIVAL WORKSHOP SERIES
June 14 –25, 9am
Making A Band
Calling all youth who already play an instrument and want to join a band of their peers. Participant’s audition and are grouped with a band. Each band is provided with a place to rehearse and the opportunity to be recorded. Instruction and coaching provided by United Globe Music Inc.
Age level for participants: Intermediate players 9
Location of program: Kihei Charter School and Maui Wave Studios
Cost of program: $125 includes instruction/coaching and rehearsal space; partial scholarships available

June 14 – 25 - Session 1 begins at 10 am
Guitar / Bass / Percussion
Group Lessons
Students receive group instruction on bass, guitar and percussion. Classes are organized by instrument and further separated by skill level including beginning, intermediate and advanced. Focus is on correct playing techniques, scales, chords, soloing ideas and playing within a band context. Students also have opportunities to play with professional musicians at jam sessions and public performances. All classes taught by trained instructors of United Globe Music.
Age level for participants: Beginner to advanced players 9 - 18
Location of program: Maui Wave Studio and Kihei Charter School
Cost of program: $15 per 1- hour class

Introduction to Entertainment Technician
This course exposes students to the fundamentals of audio engineering, lighting design, stagecraft, stage management, audio recording and audio engineering techniques. Session culminate with a field trip to the Maui Arts & Cultural Center for back of house tour and hands-on workshops. Audio students will record groups in the program at Maui Wave Recording Studio Instruction offered by Peter Lago of Maui Wave Studios.
Age level for participants: 12 – 18

An evening of great music by Highseas Dixieland Jazz Band Mana‘o Radio Orchestra featuring Vince Esquire
Omar & The Soultones featuring Ken Stover on Keys and Rick Yamashiro on Sax Jamallad and the AECG student ensemble with emcee Kathy Collin. The concert is presented by Arts Education for Children Group (AECG) and is supported by the County of Maui, Hawai‘i Tourism Authority, and Mana‘o Radio.

Introduction to Musical Instruments
This course is designed to ascertain where the musicality of each child lies. Via our mobile music school, we provide a variety of instruments (musical instrument petting zoo), to allow students hands on experimentation. Students are given the opportunity to try different instruments in order to find which one is of interest to them. We will focus on the three elements of the music making process including rhythm, melody and the silences / pauses in music. Instruction by United Globe Music.
Age level for participants: Beginning players 9 – 12

Maui Communty Band Woodwind Symphony Orchestra Concert
Concerts by the Maui Community Band are an annual Festival favorite. Lisa Owen is founder and music director of The Maui Community Band which is comprised of musicians from all walks of life -- doctors, opera singers, car salesmen, bankers, teachers, hotel workers, high school students, and retirees.
Place: Queen Ka‘ahumanu Center, 275 W. Ka‘ahumanu Ave., Kahului.
Admission is free.

Vocalist Sheryl Renee
Sheryl Renee is a versatile artist - vocalist, actress, playwright. She has shared the stage with some of the best musicians, artists, actors and directors in the world. Based in Denver, Colorado, Sheryl has been the featured guest soloist with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra, opened for Joe Cocker, and won awards for her stage performances including playing Hattie McDaniel and Tina Turner.
Vocalist Sheryl Renee will perform as part of Wailuku’s First Friday celebration.

Lahaina’s Fourth of July Celebration
This annual open-air celebration features musical performances followed by a fireworks extravaganza.
The Maui Community Band will perform “Fanfare for Festival,” an original composition by New York composer Carl Strommen comissioned especially for the Maui Invitaitonal Music Festival along with holiday favorites.
The show opens with Latitude 21 degrees (use the symbol) featuring David Chou, Bob Harrison, Sal godinez, and Mike Buono playing jazz with a a Latin flair.Vocalist Sheryl Renee will also perform.
Pllace: Lahaina Library lawn, Front Street, Lahaina
Admission is free.
